Brooklyn, NY December 04, 2013 – In what is sure to stir up controversy and open old wounds, independent award winning film producer Kenya Cagle has written a screenplay based on historical facts that suggest that slave rebellion leader Nat Turner was truly a prophet of God.

Nat Turner was a slave who led the most successful insurrection in American history. Turner stated in his Confessions that he received communication from the Holy Spirit which informed him to slay his enemies with their own weapons. At the end of his revolt 55 white people including men, women and children along with 200 innocent people of color had lost their lives. Cagle himself, a minister in training, states that “Nat Turner passed all the tests required for verifying a prophet and holds a place equal to Ezekiel, Elijah or any other legitimate prophet.”

The screenplay is being published in book form to raise awareness and create a buzz for the soon to be produced movie. Professional actors will perform public readings of the screenplay which will take place at various colleges and institutions across the United States. In addition, there will be special guest which includes historians, descendants and the writer/producer himself will be available for a discussion to be held immediately after each read.  The movie will be produced during the summer of 2014 and will make its’ world premiere in Ghana, Africa, the place where Nat’s mother was captured in the late 1700’s and brought to America.

Hollywood failed in its’ earlier attempt to produce a motion picture about Nat Turner’s life in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Based on what Cagle describes as a perverted version of Turner’s legacy, black activists as well as descendents of slave owners fought bitterly to change controversial aspects of the aforementioned production and have their voices and opinions matter in this earlier attempt to bring Nat to the silver screen.

Cagle stated that he feels that he will be successful because, “I am not Hollywood. I am an independent filmmaker. I’ve been doing film for years. I take into consideration the feelings of decedents and activists and everything else. But in the end, I decide which movies I am going to produce or not. On behalf of me and many others in the black community, we thank Quentin Tarantino and others for their attempts to create historical black heroes. But we don’t have to create them because we have them. We are telling their stories from our point of view. Never forget that the story told from the viewpoint of the hunter will always be told differently by the hunted.”

The new book will be released on the birth date of Turner, Oct 2, 2013 through Amazon.com.  Turner was born on Oct 2, 1800. He was sentenced to death in Southampton County, Virginia on November 11, 1831.
